In The Wake of Tragedy, I Ask for Prayers For Our Country

Allow me to get serious for a moment….

In the wake of this week’s tragedy with the murders of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield, I thought I would blog regarding the need of prayers for our country and the people who make up the great U S of A.  This blog may rub some people very wrong, and for that, I am sorry.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Chris, but my husband, my in-laws and my friends that grew up in Midlothian have known him for many years.  From what I have read and heard, he was an amazing and talented man.  I am sure there is no one who wouldn’t say he died too early.  Death is sad, no matter how old a person was, what a person had accomplished or how he or she died.  And even if a person’s death is not sad to you, chances are it is sad to someone else.  It just so happens, when a hero such as Chris Kyle dies, who has done so much to protect our country, the emotions are felt across the nation.

Tonight as I watched the news, I found myself on a completely different page than most of the world…Well, maybe not a completely different page, but probably having a different mindset than most.  Here’s where the “rubbing wrong” begins.  While I won’t mention the name of the piece of crap (to be referred to here on out as POC) who “allegedly” shot Chris and Chad as I refuse to give him any shout outs, I will talk about how I felt this evening.  The news played the 911 call from the sister of POC and read her statement that she submitted afterwards, and I was sickened.  Not only was I sickened because of the reason everyone else was, but also because POC was so completely out of his mind based on the conversations he was having afterwards.  While I am not a practicing psychologist, I do have a BS in Psychology because I have a love for the science.  And with that love comes a heart for people who need help.  I also know that the family of mental ill people endure more than a lot of us can even fathom.  To me, it is a sad situation all the way around.  Not just for Chris, Chad and their respective families. but also for POC and his family as well.

Our government is spending so much time and energy worrying about gun control.  But why?  We have the right to carry guns per the constitution.  Let’s not mess with that.  We all know guns don’t kill people.  People kill people.  We have so many people walking around with mental issues.  I feel we should be focusing on making America more mentally healthy.  America is busy.  We go ninety to nothing.   Americans are losing their jobs, going off to war, seeing things that no one can imagine and then dropped back at home like nothing ever happened.  What does our government do to help these people?  I honestly don’t know.  But if POC was not given extensive counseling after coming home from war,  MAYBE….JUST MAYBE, it is possible it is actually the government failing our society.

Don’t get me wrong.  I LOVE MY COUNTRY!  I am not a country bashing woman.  But I can tell you anyone who flips in a moment’s notice and kills people who are trying to  help him, or anyone who walks into an elementary school and starts killing innocent children iS NOT SANE.  They are not healthy and they are not themselves.  How do you think this week would be different if our government spent as much time training our soldiers to come home from war as they did training them to go into it?  Granted, not everyone needs extensive counseling to come home.  But I would imagine POC is not the only one affected from war.  I am sure we have tons of soldiers walking around our soil lost, confused and hurting at one end of the spectrum and just plain crazy at the other end because their minds just cannot compute what they have gone through which causes circuits to just break in their brains.  It is sad, it is tragic and it is unnecessary.  If you are going to spend the money on sending a soldier over, spend the money on mandatory counseling to bring him home. Just having it available is not enough.  Our soldiers have pride, and I would imagine most would turn it down.  A soldier doesn’t have the option of declining training to go over.  Don’t give him or her an option to decline training to come home.

I also believe this which has been instilled in my brain over the last couple of years.  Not one person dies one minute before or one minute after God intends for it to happen.  God knows when we are born when our last-minute on this earth will be.  What stinks, is that we as His creations have no idea. So death shocks us.  It hurts us, sometimes down to the core.  However, I do believe God is the ruler of this earth and nothing happens that He doesn’t allow to happen.  And I also believe His glory shines through every success as well as every heartache.  We may not understand, but we have to continue to believe and trust in  Him.  Don’t ever give up on God.

So tonight, I urge you to pray.  Pray for our government.  Pray for our soldiers.  Pray for the families of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield.  Pray that God takes the anger away from you if you are angry.  And yes, pray even for POC and his family.

~Until Next Time
